Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is a highly competitive, federally funded initiative designed to stimulate technological innovation and foster the development of dual-use solutions by small businesses. Through a multi-phase process, SBIR helps companies like Dark Wolf transition cutting-edge research into operational capabilities that directly support national security.

Dark Wolf has successfully completed SBIR Phase I and Phase II contracts, demonstrating proof of concept and delivering functional prototypes aligned with mission needs. As a result, government customers are now able to engage Dark Wolf directly for SBIR Phase III contracts—which are exempt from further competition under federal acquisition regulations.

What is SBIR Phase III?

Phase III SBIR contracts are used to extend, mature, or deploy work originally performed under a prior Phase I or II award. Unlike earlier phases, Phase III contracts:

  • Do not require recompete or sole-source justification
  • Can be awarded by any federal agency, not just the original sponsor
  • Are ideal for rapidly transitioning prototypes into field-ready tools

This makes SBIR Phase III an ideal path for acquisition teams seeking to move fast while staying compliant.
